Unconscious Dog

Loss of consciousness and ability to respond. In serious cases, you can not wake up an unconscious dog. In partial unconsciousness, the dog might show some capacity of response, but he doesn't have a notion of what surrounds him. It can be a symptom of many diseases or head injuries, cerebral hemorrhage, intoxication, serious hemorrhages, epileptic attacks, etc. A symptom that should alert you is extreme paleness (Lay the animal with his head a little bit lower than the rest of his body. Keep him warm, but not too much). If you notice congestion, keep him lying down with his head and upper parts of the abdomen somewhat elevated. Only cover him if he is cold, but don't cover him. You must see if you can find any signs of injury, hemorrhage, asphyxia, intoxication, heatstroke and so on. Make sure he is breathing. If there is no breathing, apply mouth-to-mouth recitation.

Important: never apply artificial respiration is the animal is breathing or just unconscious. Never try to administer liquids by the mouth when the animal is unconscious. In these cases is usually best to head for the veterinarian.
