Symptoms of Diabetes in Dog. Polyuria and Polydipsia.

Dog disease is just one amongst all the disorders of the pancreas. It is an alteration of the metabolism of the carbohydrates, greases and proteins as a result of the incapacity to produce or use the right amount of insulin. The main symptoms of diabetes in dogs are polyuria and polydipsia, with an increase of amount and frequency of urination. In extreme cases, you might notice that the dog shows sight impediments like cataracts and others, liver growth, muscular undernourishment, and weight loss. In even more severe case, there is toxic action on the nervous system, lack of appetite; the respiratory movements are more constant and deeper, there is vomiting and progressive dehydration; additionally, the wound or injuries take time to cure and they're prone to gangrene. The characteristics of "Hyperinsulinism" are restlessness, weakness, disorientation and ataxia (inability to coordinate voluntary muscle movements; unsteady movements and staggering gait), which precede nervous manifestations like uncontrollable barking, urinary incontinence, contractions and convulsions, possibly leading to a coma. An outburst of "Hypoglucemia" is due to the fact that the sugar level in the blood is lower than normal. The animal in this state looks unwilling and dazed. As an immediate remedy, give your dog sugar water or anything sweet and then take him to the veterinary clinic. Evidently, an animal with these problems must be under constant veterinary observation, as he might need, in the same way as humans, insulin injections.
