Pharynx Disease Function Anatomy

Traumatic damages can appear in the dog pharynx due to the bad use or a lack of knowledge of how to use "chocking" collars, producing asphyxiating constriction and/or fracture of the hyoid apparatus and lesion of the pharyngeal cartilage. It can also be due to compression, incisive or torn wounds caused by accidents or dog fights. Fights can give as a result serious damage to both animals. Don't incite your dog to fight against others. When the dog costs, there is imitation in the pharynx or regions above the trachea. This can be originated by a great variety of causes, inflammation, pain, compression, asphyxiating gas inhalation, foreign body, etc. The inflammation of the pharynx is often associated with pharyngitis, bronchitis or tracheitis. There are cases that are not so complicated like when the animal has been exposed to humidity, air drafts or sudden changes from a hot environment to a cold one, prolonged stays on cold benches during expositions, etc. It is probable that all these cases are due to the invasion of organisms, which have it easy because of the animal's loss of vitality.

There are also infectious afflictions, like pharyngeal paralysis, pharyngeal collapse, neoplasias. When they are mild, there is coughing, swallowing difficulties, runny nose and stretching of the neck in order to alleviate the pressure on the throat. In extreme cases, the animal rejects his food because swallowing causes him a lot of pain. In more severe cases, he also rejected food because of the pain that swallowing causes. Secretion is copious and there is a lot of panting or stridulous breathing. He can to that of pharynx edema, in which the membranes swell until making breathing impossible, leading to suffocation. Also, pharynx afflictions can be produced by obstruction, due to foreign bodies that are in the throat and then pass to the pharynx, which makes breathing seem agitated and if the object is big and isn't immediately taken out, the animal can suffer serious consequences. Needless to say, you should go as soon as possible to the veterinarian. A dog with pharyngeal afflictions lacks appetite, has dysphagia, excessive salivation, disnea, nausea and coughs. The causes of his affection are pathologic states produced by foreign objects located in the pharynx, producing acute irritation with pharyngitis. Some infections like tonsillitis and others, oversized tonsils, can provoke obstructive disnea. The disnea that is related with the soft palate can be due to a glotic obstruction or rhinitis because of congenital insufficiency of this organ. Other causes of these afflictions can be pharyngeal paralysis and neoplaysia, this is a serious thing. Ask the vet for more information.
