Lung Cancer Disease Symptoms. Pulmonary emphysema.
Pulmonary or lung diseases and cancer dogs are pretty frequent, and taking into account their great importance, all diseased animals must be under veterinarian attention. The inflammation or infection can be caused by infectious agent (virus, bacteria, parasites) and also by inhalation of deviated toxic agents. Bacterial infection can lead to a bronchopneumonia where the animal shows a lot of depression, anorexia, fever, and humid coughs with crackling sounds. Viral contagions can lead to pneumonia with localized edema. Secondary bacterial invasion is a frequent sequel when the animal is not treated promptly. Certain parasites can cause pneumonia (cough and disnea) and bronchopneumonia. Primary neoplasias can produce cough but there is a loss of weight along with lethargy. When the infiltration of the pulmonary tissue extends, there is tachipnea. Generally, the dog avoids moving around and shows a lot of thoracic pain, anorexia, pain and weakness. There are other lesions that put the life of your animal in danger: "pulmonary edema", which provokes from tachipnea to intense disnea, adopting a sternal decubital position with the extended neck, open mouth and separated lips. You will also notice foamy, soft mucous and noisy respiration. "Pulmonary emphysema" is an abnormal ondition of the lungs marked by decreased respiratory function; associated with chronic bronchitis or old age. It's produced by a loss of elastic fibers, destruction of the alveolar walls and the diminishment of the pulmonary capillary layer. You'll also notice persistent coughing, respiratory problems, pulse irregularities and whining, when it is possible because his throat usually hurts. This progressively worsens with a fatal outcome. There can also be "pulmonary hemorrhages" and other afflictions caused by violent traumatisms where, because of the fracture of the ribs, the pleural cavity can be injured, producing an exudative or pneumothorax pleuresia due to the perforation of the thoracic wall, pulmonary tissues, air passageways or esophagus. The dog suffers from a lot of stress, with inconveniences to move or to lie down, sometimes presenting tachipnea; and in worst cases, cyanosis. "Diaphragm rupture" is serious because as the size of the ear increases, a pleural outflow can form there. The dog suffers a respiratory disorder, cyanosis and shock. In this case, the inability of pulmonary expansion goes progressing insidiously and the animal and dogs the best possible position in order to facilitate pulmonary ventilation. He rests on his sternum, generally with his elbows quite separated.
Another affliction is the presence of "pus-infected matter" in the thorax, where the dog weakens rapidly due to toxemia. There is anorexia, laziness and loss of weight. In all these cases of coughing or respiratory difficulty, you should take the animal to the vet. You never know, it could be the start of a serious affliction.
