Hyperqueratosis

Hyperqueratosis is when the skin thickens in an abnormal way, and other words, hardened skin. The calluses that form on top of the bone protruding parts, important support for the animals, are almost inevitable. In the beginning it appears like an inflamed area that goes losing hair, and then it starts forming calluses. Sometimes the dog's snout is affected by an exaggerated thickening and crevices. This must be checked by the vet. Other times this appears on the pads (hardpad disease). The rigidity and cracks of the pads make the animal limp. This must be treated by the vet as it gets worse, it can invalidate the animal.
