Cryptorchism in DogWhen the puppy is born, the testes are intra-abdominal and later descend normally. In some puppies you can feel the scrotum when they are 2 weeks old. But, in other cases, what can happen is that one defense and the other one stays up, or that only one exists, or that they both exist. The term "Cryptorchism" is used when an animal has either one or both testes stuck in the passage way; it can either be inguinal or abdominal. The term "Monorchism" is applied when only one of the testes has entered in place and the other one does not exist, i.e. it's missing. "Anorchism" is the term used for dogs that haven't developed any testes (both missing); it is strange, but not impossible. The reason why a testicle doesn't go down can be genetic. In some breeds, it is forbidden to cross with Cryptorchordeans. As a sanitary measure, and foreseeing regrettable situations, the testes that are stuck must be surgically removed once the dog has reached puberty. This way, the possibility of a tumor formation is avoided. It is also possible to try to make the thing go down naturally, but, if it works, he still can't be used as a stud. Anyway, double-check with your veterinarian. |
