Canine Dog Adrenal glands

Dog Adrenal Glands

The Canine Dog Adrenal Gland produce the noradrenaline and adrenaline hormones, which are very important for the organism. The effects are similar to those produced by the stimulation of the nervous system. They increase cardiac rhythm and blood pressure. The adrenal cortex is of vital importance as it produces the steroid hormones (corticosteroids and sexual and adrenal hormones). Due to certain adrenocortical neoplasias, excessive quantities of estrogens or androgens can form, resulting in feminizing or virilizing effects.

When "hyperfunction" takes place, the animal presents polyuria with secondary polydipsia, the increase of abdominal volume due to muscular weakness and a larger deposit of grease in the lumbar region. You'll notice certain is gained changes and bilateral alopecia (loss of hair) without pruritus. Sometimes, the dog is more depressed and predisposed to infections. In adrenocortical "hypofunction", the symptoms can progressively appear or be sudden, along with shock and kidney failure. The lack of corticosteroids produce is anorexia, vomiting, depression in some cases and also muscular weakness with shaking, diarrhea and abdominal pain. You must check with your vet.
