It is the clouding of the natural lens of the eye; a progressive opacity that irreversibly lead to blindness. It consists in the coagulation of the plasma of the lens cells, followed by the degeneration and contraction of the Center, hardening and, finally, loss of transparency. Any condition that hinders the nutrition of the lens, inflammation of the iris, pressure due to tumors, glaucoma, etc., can lead to the formation of cataracts. It is also connected to diabetes, bruises or injuries in the zone. Usually in dogs this affliction appears when they're already quite old, although it sometimes occurs in young animals due to different causes. You always have to mention any alteration in your dog's sight to the veterinarian.
