Bursitis in Dogs
Bursitis in Dogs refers to an inflammation of a bursa (a small fluid-filled sac located between movable parts of the body especially at joints); frequently in the shoulder. It can be severe or chronic, but always painful. Treat the severe one as if it were an abscess. The chronic, is generally a result of excessive movements of a particular joint or constant pressure on that joint. In dogs, it's normally observed in their knees, tarsus, sternum and in the femur joint, particularly in old animals that spend a lot of time lying down. In the first stages, your veterinarian can give you recommendations as to how the dog should relax, what massages you should give him and any additional treatment in order to reduce the inflammation. When the dog's state is serious, he needs surgical intervention.
