Differences in epidermal changes in dogs

Certain studies have shown that trimming a dog's hair with clippers reduce the epidermal turnover to just about five days instead of the normal twenty one days it usually takes. It has also been shown that this epidermal change can be even more rapid, anywhere from three to four days, in dogs that have seborrhea, which is a constant skin disease that is caused by an excess amount of scale formation. There are two different types of seborrhea in dogs, one of which is dry and this affects certain breeds of dogs such as German Shepherds, Dachshunds, and Dobermans etc. The other type is oily, and this normally affects Spaniels, Terriers, Basset Hounds, Cockers, etc.

This last type of seborrhea can be identified when the skin and hair are greasy to the touch, you will be able to notice how some of it remains on your hand after you have touched the dog and you will notice that the dog's skin is excessively greasy and has a strong smell. Dogs that have this type of seborrhea have a much quicker epidermal turnover and they generate more dander than those that have a normal twenty one day turnover. If you have a dog that has these types of symptoms it is very important to get the necessary veterinary treatment in order to keep the condition under control. In some occasions, cats can also develop this condition and this probably occurs when they get rid of the dead skin scales while they groom themselves.
